Lucozade Advert
The lucozade advert depicts one of the most famous footballers - Gareth Bale, who is a player for Real Madrid and an ex Tottenham hotspur and is up the football ranks along with some of the great names as Ronaldo or Messi. The ad shows us a mid close up shot of him staring directly at the camera, which connotes control and leadership, also making him appear bigger and more confident, which in terms of the advertisement shows that his confidence comes from the product, Lucozade are trying to tell their audience that their product is the reason he is so confident and direct. He is also known to have a clean reputation, unlike some of his fellow footballers like Ronaldo, who are having certain disputes with the law and are generally seen as less trustworthy and transparent than Bale.
In the image he is cleanly shaved and overall well groomed, which also can be used as an annotation for being clean and having a well preserved reputation.
The slogan used “IN A DIFFERENT LEAGUE” is a nod to Bale being transferred in another, superior league while also meaning that Lucozade is a superior product to it’s competitors.
The top right hand corner consists of a sort of player profile which is a nod to old football cards which used to be a very valuable collectable item in the past for all football fans.
The lighting is arranged in a certain order to make his cheekbones pop and define his face, this pushes forward the message his body language is telling by adressing the viewers in a direct manner and making him seem more confident. Normally people are self conscious about having all their facial features exposed due to them thinking that they aren’t attractive, he’s showing that not only is he okay with having his features exposed, he feels confident doing so.
The colors used in the advertisement are mainly blue and yellow, which are an obvious nod to the color scheme of the Lucozade branding colors, which are also reinforced by the bottle in the bottom left hand corner of the advertisement. The colors used - Blue and Yellow are used to connote a certain feeling in the audience.
Blue represents rest, sincerity and calmness, which makes sense considering the fact that Lucozade advertises as a post workout drink, thus pushing the feeling of rest after a workout with it’s color scheme.
Yellow is a color used for attention and spontaneousness.
It’s also used as a competitive and eye catching color which is the reason they have used it in this advertisement.
A stronger analysis than the Old Spice essay. You manage to provide a fairly detailed analysis of the imagery, layout and use of language, with some evidence shown of contextual understanding of Bale and his status as a footballer and role model. V
